I wanna take a walk, rain cloud, coat on
5. Now the day has come
6. Hello my friend we meet again
7. Everyone passes through. I don't keep them in mind either. It can't be helped.
8. Wake up my child, hope is here
9. Maybe you've noticed how I linger by the door
10. Oh Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
11. In my hands a legacy of memories
12. I built a cradle for the Moon
13. If we cut out the bad well then we'd have nothing left
23. If you wanna hang out you've got to take her out
24. I should tell you I'm disaster
25. Lie awake in bed at night, and think about your life
26. I can't take it. It's just a paycheck. Making arrangements to burn it to the ground.
27. Step one you say we need to talk
28. I have never craved the system’s sympathy
29. Down where air stands still tonight
30. <lj:music>Greensleeves - David Nevue</lj:music>

It seems now that I can hardly bring myself to post here as of late, not because I don't want to but simply because there is very little that I actually wish to share these days. Thus, you shall likely be seeing less and less of me here (or alternately quite a lot of me with nothing of meaning actually being said).

Mayhaps there will be book and movie reviews of actual quality to come in the near future...but until I can bring myself to do anything, I gift you with my latest creations, for whatever they're worth.

1. A V for Vendetta music video done to Within Temptation's Bittersweet:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2n7okJdHf8

and

2. A Sleepy Hollow music video of rather poor quality done to Within Temptation's It's the Fear:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dT8IExtciwY

Also, just found a video someone did to David Nevue's version of Greensleeves and it is, without a doubt, masterful (the song if not the video itself). Do check it out if you have the time. http://youtube.com/watch?v=P5ItNxpwChE

So it seems that I am alive and well, if not a bit overworked at the current moment, though hopefully I shall manage to stay afloat for the rest of the year..yes, I daresay I think I shall, even if to assume such of myself, given my record for being one hell of a procrastinator, is rather preposterous in and of itself. ^.^;

As it is I again say that some day soon, hopefully within the next moth or so, provided I'm not busy with other things (though perhaps that might get them up all the sooner) I will put up the picture I took in Greece and Turkey.
That's right all, four days from now I will be on a plane and on my way to Greece. I will be sure to take bunches of pictures (and actually upload them this time laziness or not there are people who wouldn't let me get away with not doing so) Anyway I do believe the following books are likely to get read while I'm there, or rather on my way there(and hopefully will end up finished by the time I return):

- Passage by Connie Willis
- The Magician's Guild by Trudi Canavan (which I promised asakiyume I'd get around to reading sooner rather than later.)
- Traitor's Moon by Lynn Flewelling

and anything more if I can manage it.

Anyway while I will be gone away soon and unable to comment for an entire week and a half, I encourage you all to take a look at the following:

Stupid yet amusing videos:

1. http://youtube.com/watch?v=uYmIfZqCu5s (Saix as a....defective furby?)
2. http://youtube.com/watch?v=OeUwe9V3vZc (cute but pointless and short)
3. http://youtube.com/watch?v=YOy4BJTMEm4
4. http://youtube.com/watch?v=-kArLDnyWxw (aww again cute but pointless)
5. http://youtube.com/watch?v=W6C65_xqzXs (The song O Fortuna...as literal as it gets sound wise)
6. http://youtube.com/watch?v=W6C65_xqzXs (Fruits basket does the macerena)
7. http://youtube.com/watch?v=BytcGTmJPBE (a Lord of the Rings spoof you'll likely not soon forget >.<)
8. http://youtube.com/watch?v=-5pGiIsqkLU (someones thought on the Nintendo Wii..because we all knew it would come to this sooner or later)
9. http://youtube.com/watch?v=_qr8WZQ_JJY (the Gryffindor Tribute to Snape..featuring the song Kyle's mom...if nothing else the ending is creative)

Good videos:

1. http://youtube.com/watch?v=D_WbaSUOyAA (why is it good? because it's damn hard to find Spiral music videos)
2. http://youtube.com/watch?v=53MvXnMursY (another pretty good spiral one done to the song falls on me.)
3. http://youtube.com/watch?v=_qr8WZQ_JJY (kick ass Saiyuki video...and I haven't even seen more than an episode or so of reloaded. and pardon my french all *bows*)
4. http://youtube.com/watch?v=fa019sv0BWo (it's cute and people seemed to like it..found it randomly)
5. http://youtube.com/watch?v=YPjy-lLT1Gc (a sweet Yami no Matsuei video)
6. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ca6ere840SE (amazingly well done AMV to Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust using the song Full Moon, from Sonata Arctica.)

My Video:

My first video ever...perhaps it's best you all didn't see but here it is regardless: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ca6ere840SE

Hope these keep you all occupied and if I haven't put up anything you like just yet, well just wait, your time will come soon enough...I even take AMV requests <strike>if I love you enough</strike>when I have the time.
Yesterday I headed off to see Pirates of the Caribbean: The Dead Man's Chest, which was not better than the first one, but was by far more amusing as far as the amount of humor and improbability of it all was concerned...but the most interesting things seemed to happen after the movie.

At any rate afterward I we needed to call home to get picked up, but unfortunately the pay phones were being temperamental and decided they weren't going to work for us. So we walked around a bit and I said to Shikuchi and littlemetaldrop (who had accompanied me) "I bet if we walk around we'll find someone we know with a cell phone." And lo and behold, two minutes or so later we run into Stilts and his gang and one of them has a cellphone. So I make the call to get us a ride and we go sit in the food court.

Well we get to talking about Ashley because I met her in the mall, and small world that it is, Shikuchi and LMD knew her from Japanese Classes, so we get around to talking about how I wish she was with us so we could watch her play DDR (but mainly because I wanted to challenge her again myself).

Anyway I had earlier mentioned wanted to play laser storm and, strangely enough, a group of people (two guys and a girl, about college age) come up to us and ask if we want to join in a group game of laser storm once they gathered up a few more people (for 6 on 6 teams), and so I said we would if we were still there when they got the people (which unfortunately we weren't)...anyway, that was score #3 for me.

So we're sitting there and decide to send out a scout for the car after they walk off(LMD ended up volunteering) so of she went, leaving me and shikuchi to talk. However, shikuchi wants a gumball, so she goes over and gets an orange one and comes back complaining about how it is the second time she's gotten an orange one from that machine.

Then, she goes to get a second and comes back with another orange XD, so I ask for a quarter and tell her I want a blue. I go over, and lo and behold a blue pops out and I spend the rest of the time happily munching on it.

Then about a minute later, LMD returns and says that Ashley is outside, and so we all get to talk with her outside, we walk in and we agree to walk around with her...but being me I say we'll have to leave soon, then clap my hand over my mouth as they all glare at me (for being psychic) because they didn't want to leave yet. Then as we start walking into the mall, I notice out ride waiting by the curb outside, and point it out, making it 5/5 for me.

And finally, on the way home, we are told there is pizza waiting for us at the house, and earlier in the food court I had said that there would likely be something to eat when we got back to my place, likely pizza (XD) and this it was the final prediction come true, for a grand total of 6 in a row in one day...kinda spooky eh?...As it is they said they'd be accompanying me to the mall more often from now on. (and we're not even gonna go into how many people started talking to me, quite a few of whom I didn't even know).

Powers of Detection - Reviews (stories 1-6 of 12)

When magic and mystery come together, one gets Powers of Detection, a collection of short stories edited by Dana Stabenow. And so as I have finished all of the short stories within it, some of which had quite a bit of shortcomings, and others which I happened find rather well written and rewarding throughout, I figured that it wouldn't hurt overly much to put up my thoughts on each of the shorts.

Cold Spell by Donna Andrews - Welcome to magic school, which is intriguing if not overly done, but wait, this is no Harry Potter says the introduction, and so it isn't. Here we meet Maestro Justinian, one of the world's most powerful mages, and he has a cold. Now what this means is that his magic has a tendency to go haywire and something happens every time he sneezes.

Next meet Gwynn, his keeper, or so I have deigned to call her. In actuality, she is his young apprentice, and for all practical purposes in this story, his housemaid.

After a quick meeting with them to give us a sense of character, it begins. A murder has occurred and, while I didn't particularly like the story itself, I think the explanation at the end for how the murder occurred was quite ingenious, and perhaps the story is worth the read simply for that little creative bit.
------------------

The Nightside Needless to Say The opening provides for you a glimpse of a setting that may well be the best part of the story. As it goes this builds you up for something great and leaves you somewhat disappointed overall, or so I've found. It opens in Nightside a place where those with no place left to go take refuge, where it is always 3 o'clock in the morning, and you can find anything for a price, save for happy endings.

Now, while the setup is fairly well delivered, the story held little interest for me. It starts off with the main character Harry Oblivion who wakes up dead, and follows him as he seeks the aid of his partner and former lover, as he tries to find his killer before he decays, which he does end up doing because of an all powerful time stopping wand that he carries around in his pocket. At any rate, this piece, in my opinion, left much to be desired overall, and even the wit of the last line couldn't fully redeem it.
-------------------------

Lovely by John Straley - Now this piece I found to be a gem among rocks. It was insightful, creative, had its own brand of creepy, and was told from the point of view of Gunk, a raven out looking for 'lovely dead things,' to eat. Now, while there isn't much more to say about it than that, the imagery and the way you are able to see the world from the point of view of a raven, which turns out to seem fairly realistic (and reminds me of the Dean Koontz novel Dragon Tears, in which a few chapters were narrated by a dog). At any rate I wholly enjoyed this piece, which surprised me to say the least.
-----------------------

The Prince by Anne Bishop. Some old favorites return, for those of you who have read the Black Jewels Trilogy, and they include Surreal, a former whore/assassin who is our narrative voice for this piece, Rainier, prince of Dharo, and finally Daemon Sadi and Jaenelle Angelline which, while being some of my all time favorite characters in the novels, and being all around fun to read about, I will refrain from going on about.

Now The Prince starts off with the murder of three Blood males, well perhaps murder isn't the right word. Surreal describes it as a slashing, the bodies torn and tattered and as Rainier says later, the heads hidden behind a screen, burned by witchfire, and oh can witchfire burn. At any rate Surreal and Rainier team up (which is great because after Dreams Made Flesh I wanted to see more of Rainier) and go a hunting for the killed, who we later find out is targeting Jeweled males simply because her consort walked out when his contract was up.

Eventually we stir in a bit off Daemon Jaenelle. Jaenelle with the ingenious illusions that lure out and 'catch' the killer, and Daemon to provide...well whatever it is that Daemon provides. ^.~ All in all, while it wasn't her best work, as a short story it did quite well, but this might just be my biased opinion speaking as the Black Jewels Trilogy still remains one of my favorite books series' ever.
-----------------------------

Fairy Dust by Charlaine Harris - Now here's an interesting little piece set in a world where vampires, fairys, and morphs are a daily occurrence, if only fairly recently. At any rate the main character Sookie, a telepath, is quite used to them in a way that most aren't, but when a frequent fairy customer Claudine comes in with a job. However when the job means meeting Claude, Claudine's brother, and trying to find out who murdered their sister Claudia (oh yes, I was loving the names when combined with the 3 or so retellings of what happened). While there isn't much more to say without giving away the ending, I'll say only what one learns from this story, the first being that Charlaine Harris is quite a good short story writer, and the second is that you'd do best not to piss off her fairies.
----------------------------------

The Judgement by Anne Perry - Now this was an interesting little marvel not for the story itself, but for the character known only as the Judge, for in this judge each person sees something different, something that sympathizes or is likened to themselves, though essentially I do believe that he is somehow able to project an image of their inner selves to him, to make them see what they want to see, which is ingenious. And of course to wrap it up, there is a wonderful little twist on the entire story in the last few lines.

----------------------------------------

As this will get rather long if I put them all up in a single post, I will put the rest up later.
Current Reading List

Ah yes, so here it is at long last, and I've decided it is to be a reading list of a sort. I just finished up with my semi-newest arrival, that being Dragon Bones by Patricia Briggs, and while I don't support sticky tabs font on a book cover, it was an excellent read overall and I can't wait for the sequel to come out(unless of course it's out and I'm just not seeing it).

As it is, I've just picked up a copy of The Virtu by Sarah Monette, which I can't wait to start reading, especially if it is as intriguing and well-written as Melusine was.

But alas, I stall, here is my current reading list as it stands:

<list>
*Powers of Detection (edited by: Dana Stabenow...yes this has too many authors to list, all of them very talented)

*The Virtu by Sarah Monette (if it's as good as the first, then I shall truly enjoy reading this, and then I can attempt to bug Sarah about this female character she keeps refrencing...if she will allow me to.)

*Stalking Darkness by Lynn Flewelling (the second of Flynn Flwwelling's Nightrunner Series)

*The Magician's Guild by Trudi Canavan (picked it up on a whim...hope it's good)

*The Pillars of the World by Anne Bishop (because I've read each and every one of her Black Jewels related books and still can't get enough of her writing)

*Cry to heaven by Anne Rice (another talent author whose Vampire Chronicles I fnished tackling a few years ago, this was recommendeed to me by a friend)

Once I've tackled this list, I think it is safe to say I can start taking reading requests, so to speak, as I always do love having things recommended to me, and I like just about everything.

A New Journal?

    <lj:music>Butterfly - DDR (can't remember who by...eh this is baaaaad)</lj:music>

Yes folks, I've decided that I needed a new LJ journal ASAP, as there are some people who know of my other one that I'd rather not have bothering me at the present time, and so this was born. Estel means hope in elvish, and so this shall be my little guiding light, my hope in darkness to and for all of you...or not.

I simply come here to state my humble opinions, fangirl, squeal, and write the occasional fanfics while stalking the people from ADV and trying to crush Spira, like a grape...did I say crush?...I meant unite, in peace, and harmony, and bloodshed...Did I say bloodshed?...well you get the general idea. (No I'm not actually stalking anyone from ADV...damn Texans)...but I can still attempt to get their attention. Also I am a bit held up with things at the moment, but the next entry shall merit from me some book reviews, or perhaps just a list or total of the things read thus far this year.
